In the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at 1:20 GMT, Appreciate It justified favorism with a huge 24-length win. Ballyadam stayed on for second as Leopardstown form came to the fore and Blue Lord took a tumble.

Shishkin sparkled in the Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase at 1:55, swooping on Allmankind and Captain Guinness who took each other on in front. He stormed up the Cheltenham hill by a dozen lengths.

Veteran Vintage Clouds made it fifth time lucky in the Ultima Handicap Chase at 2:30, staying on best under a prominent ride and pulling off a 28/1 shock.

Honeysuckle made Rachael Blackmore the first female jockey to win Champion Hurdle , the feature race of the day at 3:05. She cruised clear of other Cheltenham day 1 runners and confirmed previous form with Sharjah. Defending champ Epatante could only come third.

Black Tears just got up and denied favorite Concertista in the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle at 3:40. Odds of 80/1 were landed for Jeff Kidder in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle following n at 4:15.

Finally, Galvin saw a long-time plan come together in the National Hunt Chase , as he showed stamina to beat Next Destination and Escaria Ten in the last at 4:50.
