This is the fourth season in a row that Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been ranked first among NFL quarterbacks, according to the most recent rankings as he has already won a Super Bowl, the league MVP, and the Super Bowl MVP during the previous three seasons. We’ll list some of the finest quarterbacks this season, especially as the regular season kicks off on September 8.
Due to his outstanding performance, Mahomes is considered number one on the list. It is known how he led Kansas City when he joined the team in 2018 and began to elevate them to the top of the NFL in both scoring offense and overall offense and even brought the Vince Lombardi trophy back to Missouri in 2019, despite a modest decline in performance in 2021.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady is without a doubt the greatest candidate to succeed Mahomes. The 44-year-old athlete threw for 5,316 yards and 43 touchdowns during his most recent season. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s 4,407 passing yards and 36 touchdowns indicate that he didn’t want to lose to Brandy either, helping to make the Bills one among the Super Bowl favorites.
Even though Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is seeing a decline in performance as the season approaches, he is still one of the all-time best quarterbacks. The Chargers’ Justin Herbert, the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, racked up 5,014 yards and third-place-ranking 38 touchdowns.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow, who is now in his third season, is ranked sixth on the list and is occasionally even referred to as Brady’s closest rival.
Our next player, Mattew Stafford, even successfully won the Super Bowl in his first season in the competition with Sean McVay and the LA Rams. Lamar Jackson, the Ravens’ MVP-winning quarterback, has a solid track record with 49 games played in his first season, including 12 victories, 4,300 yards, and 35 touchdowns.
Russell Wilson, the Denver Broncos quarterback, has accumulated 65 touchdowns and 19 interceptions over the course of the last two seasons while also recovering from a finger injury from the previous year.
The top player on our list, Las Vegas Raiders’ Derek Carr, recently reconnected with Davante Adams after a long separation. Since 2019, Carr has racked up 71 touchdowns, 31 interceptions, completed 69 percent of his passes, successfully bringing a rating of 98.4 for the QB rating, and has a throwing attempt of 7.8 yards.
Despite being placed seventh in the previous QB ranking, Kyler Murray is ranked #11 in the current list. In contrast to the first half of the season, the Arizona Cardinals quarterback’s performance has declined in the second half. It is known that Murray had the second-highest completion percentage in 2021 and was among the top five in yards attempted.
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott should not be overlooked either because he played for 4,449 yards and 37 touchdowns in the previous season despite having a calf problem that limited him. Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns, Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings, and Mac Jones of the New England Patriots are the players ranked 13, 14, and 15 respectively.
Baker Mayfield, Jimmy Garoppolo, Matt Ryan, Ryan Tannehill, and Jalen Hurts round out the remainder of our quarterbacks who rank in the top 20. The Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan has completed 67 percent of his throws while scoring 20 touchdowns thus far.
