Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson responded to a remark made by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about putting his name on the team’s Ring of Honors.
Previously, in Sunday’s interview with NBCDFW, Jones said that the decision to put Johnson in the Cowboys Ring of Honors “isn’t at the end of the day all tailored around whether Jimmy is sniveling or not”.
Johnson made an appearance at the Dan Le Batard Show later on Thursday and replied to Jones’ comment.
“I had to look that word up in the dictionary,” Johnson said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever sniveled. Do you ever remember me sniveling?”
In the show, Johnson told the host about his past exchanges with Jones about the honor. According to Johnson, Jones had told him several times that he would include the former coach in the honor.
Johnson expressed that he did not “have any deep feelings” about earning the honor as he was content with his life. Recently, he just made it to the Hall of Fame with Jones presenting the award to him. Still, the 79 years-old made a jab at Jones by saying that if the team owner finally gave him the honor then people would stop talking about him.
Fans have been asking about when Johnson’s name would be put on the list. Some even said that Johnson’s exclusion from the list was “very petty”. The NBCDFW brought up the topic to Jones on Sunday.
Jones replied to NBCDFW interviewer Newy Scruggs that he would put Johnson on the list. However, he explained that Johnson was not the only person in line for the honor. Jones had to think about other people deserving of that position as well.
As the owner of the Cowboys, Jones is the only person who can decide to whom the honor will be given and when.
