Martin Necas has been reported to re-sign a two-year contract extension offer from The Carolina Hurricanes.
The contract is announced to be worth $6 million, which is divided by $2.5 million for the next season and $3.5 million for the 2023-24 season.
Necas has been with the Hurricanes ever since the franchise picked him in the first round of the 2017 draft. After the Hurricanes’ second playoff loss against the New York Rangers, Necas said that he wanted to do more.

“I’ve got to help the team more, got to produce way more,” Necas said. “That’s what everyone kind of expects from me. I didn’t do it this year. so like I said it was disappointing for me.”
The team’s coach Rod Brind’Amour supported Necas, saying that he had a good potential to perform better in the playoffs.
“We’ve got to find a way to punch through (in the playoffs), “and I think Marty obviously has the potential to help us do that,” Brind’Amour said.
The team’s general manager Don Waddell also agreed and said that Necas has still some room to improve.
“Martin is a dynamic young playmaker,” Waddell said. “He has an elite combination of speed and skill and we think he’ll only continue to improve.”
Necas has been considered an important player of the team with his speed and skill. However, he was somewhat inconsistent last season while finishing with 14 goals and 26 assists. He was unable to find the net in 14 playoff games.
There has been a concern regarding what role Necas should fill on the team for the next season. Carolina also acquired Max Pacioretty, and Seth Jarvis who performed quite well last season, Necas may lose out on an opportunity to be on the top-six spot if he doesn’t outperform Jarvis in training.
According to Josh Herickson from Pro Hockey Rumors, when Necas’ contract expires in 2024, he will be a restricted free agent and have two years of RFA eligibility remaining.
