Kwon Alexander has said that the New York Jets were aiming All-Pro. He also set quite high expectations for himself this upcoming season.
“Pro Bowl is cool, but I’m trying to be All-Pro,” Alexander said. “[I’m] trying to change my whole game, you know, put it all together this year.”
Alexander was a pro bowler with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017 before ending up with the Jets under the head coach Robert Saleh. He is considered a good fit for Jeff Ulbrich’s defense as he has shown so far during the training camp. He signed up to the Jets for a one-year deal after being released from the New Orleans Saints in March.
Alexander has missed the entire offseason program and the first week of the camp. Regardless, despite haven’t been on an NFL team for more than four months, Saleh remained impressed with his physical condition.
“I wanted to hit the ground running,” Alexander said. “That was my whole mindset, to be ready and focused once I got on a team.”
The team had been planning to add Alexander to a linebacker corps which included C.J. Mosley, Quincy Williams, and Marcell Harris. The Jets saw having Alexander, being a veteran linebacker, would be a good strategy to victory. Additionally, he has established himself as the one of the group’s leaders, despite being the most recent addition.
“He’s another veteran to add to that young linebacker group,” Saleh said. “He’s a ball of energy, great leadership. Can play both WILL and SAM linebacker. Love him. Obviously, we have history [together] in San Francisco, but he’s a special young man.”
Alexander currently sits behind Marcell Harris for the starting weakside linebacker role on the Jets’ unofficial depth chart, though he could easily attain the starting spot with strong preseason play. In 12 games for the Saints last year — eight of which he started — Alexander had 50 tackles, 3.5 sacks and one interception.

Currently, he’s been shown to be happy and looking forward to playing for the Nets.
“It’s gonna be a fun year,” he said, “and we’re going to be out there having a lot of fun.”
