The Philadelphia Eagles traded their wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for defensive back Ugo Amadi on Monday.
This move is related to the NFL’s requirement of cutting down players in all teams to create an 85-men roster on their first-round depth chart by Tuesday. Arcega-Whiteside and Amadi have better chances for the final cut with their new teams.
In the training camp, the Eagles had limited safety options. Reports showed that Marcus Epps was the only standout veteran player there. Jaquiski Tartt did not participate in training for one week due to personal reasons, while K’Von Wallace’s performance has been inconsistent.
However, the team can also consider undrafted rookie Reed Blankenship and special team member Andre Chachere for the roster. Amadi started seven games last season and has accumulated 128 tackles, an interception, and two forced fumbles in his 1,318 snaps.
Meanwhile, Arcega-Whiteside position in the team’s depth chart has been threatened by recent additions, including Jalen Reagor and Quez Watkins. Reagor and Watkins have both recorded reliable performances as wide receivers, prompting the Eagles to move Arcega-Whiteside to tight end before this year’s draft. However, the addition of A. J. Brown and Grant Calcaterra became a threat to his tight-end seat.
When asked about the possibility of returning to wide receiver, Arcega-Whiteside said he would return to the position if the coach asked him to.
“I’ve just always been a guy that whatever the coach needs me to do I’m going to do,” Arcega-Whiteside said. “If you need me to go play special teams I’ll do it, if you need me to play tight end I’ll do it.
“Whatever they need me to do, I adjust accordingly and help the team as much as possible. That’s all I’m focused on.”
The Seahawks have yet to announce Arcega-Whiteside’s new position in their team.
