The New York Giants have added four new players to their roster. Yesterday, They claimed Jack Anderson, Nick McCloud, Justin Layne, and Jason Pinnock from the NFL preseason waiver wire.
The Giants were in the fifth order of the waiver wire. The team used the position to acquire a guard (Anderson), two cornerbacks (McCloud and Layne), and one safety (Pinnock).
Anderson was selected with the 236th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He was waived to the team’s practice squad after the 2021 preseason before the Philadelphia Eagles claimed him off in September.
McCloud is also a former Bill. He was signed twice by Buffalo in 2021, once after he was waived from the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad. McCloud is widely regarded to have a good mix of height, weight, and speed.
“McCloud has decent patience from press, along with the length and strength to slow the release,” NFL analyst Lance Zierlein said of McCloud.
At 6″2 and 192 lbs, Layne is a former Pittsburgh Steelers player. He joined the Steelers after the team picked him out of Michigan State in the 2019 NFL Draft. According to Zierlein, some of his strengths are his above-average height and arm length and a good football IQ despite lacking strength.
Pinnock was a third safety for the New York Jets. At 6-foot and 204 pounds, the player is equipped with great athleticism. According to Zierlein, some of Pinnock’s strengths are his quickness to jam up the release and his ability to position his body mid-air. However, he tends to lose his balance when opening his hips to sprint.
In other news, the Giants also announced that Shane Lemieux, Elerson Smith, and Rodarius Williams would be on the injured reserve and miss their season opener.
