Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship founder and president David Feldman recently expressed interest in signing former UFC veteran Nate Diaz to the Philadelphia-based promotion. Feldman said he would do “everything” to get the pro to compete in BKFC.
“I can’t tell you whether he’s coming or not, but I can tell you that we want him here at Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, and we’re going to do everything we can do to get him a bare-knuckle fight,” Feldman said via BKFC’s podcast “The BKFC Show”.
Despite being a 37-year-old, Diaz’s record of 22-13 made him one of the UFC’s most prominent fighters. However, his UFC chapter recently concluded, following a rumored beef with the giant promotion company.
Standing among the UFC greats, Diaz just returned from winning last weekend’s matchup by submission over former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson.
Diaz was supposed to fight Chechen-Swedish Khamzat Chimaev on September 10 at UFC 279, but Chimaev missed weight by seven-and-a-half pounds. Diaz ended up fighting Ferguson instead, while Chimaev fought Kevin Holland.
Ahead of his supposed bout with Chimaev, Diaz said he was forced to fight and fulfill his signed contract.
“They’re acting like I called for this fight, which I didn’t call for and don’t want and didn’t want and still don’t want,” Diaz told ESPN. “But I don’t give a f—, I’ll fight anybody. But, [the] pressure is on [Chimaev], he better finish me because he’s the next killer in town.”
After over 15 years of fighting in the UFC, Diaz ended up establishing his own promotion company, Real Fight, Inc. Diaz said that the UFC had “been disrespecting” him.
It remains to be seen whether Diaz will return to the Octagon, fight elsewhere, or expand his own fighting venture.
“I think that the fans would absolutely love to see – both have the same type of personality, both just guys that keep fighting – Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry would be a fan’s dream fight,” Feldman added.
