The Indianapolis Colts will play against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday. Following a blowout 24-0 Week 2 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Frank Reich’s squad regained their footing in Week 4 with a 20-17 triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs. However, a key offense piece, running back Jonathan Taylor, sustained an injury after the game.
While preparations in Indianapolis are in full swing, the team will likely have to defend Lucas Oil Stadium from the Tennessee Titans this Sunday without the star running back.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Taylor experienced soreness shortly after the matchup and missed out on the team’s practice, which led to an issue with his toe on Wednesday.
Pelissero added that Taylor was expected to join the fight against Tennessee, with several sources claiming the 23-year-old is “ready to roll.” However, uncertainty remains around the running back, and the Colts seem unlikely to rush the recovery progress of the player. This week’s remaining practice sessions will decide whether Taylor is ready to play on the field or remain on the sideline.
“It’s the Thursday and Friday practices that really make a difference for a player’s game status going into the weekend,” Colts Wire’s Kevin Hickey wrote.
Taylor is ranked fourth in NFL rushing yards with 61 attempts for 286 yards. In Week 3, the RB made 21 rushes for 71 yards.
Aside from Taylor, Hickey reported there were at least seven other injured players in total. Including Taylor, six players were absent from Wednesday’s practice.
The other two were tackle Bernhard Raimann and linebacker Shaquille Leonard, who sustained an ankle and back injury, respectively. They participated in the training, with Raimann as a limited and Leonard as a full participant.
Despite Leonard showing signs of recovery—being a full participant for the past two weeks—there is still no timetable for his return.
