The New York Giants reportedly met with their former safety, Landon Collins, on Monday. Former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. could also be spotted in the meeting, as per NFL Insider Josina Anderson.
ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the news, saying a potential reunion between the Giants and the former All-Pro could take place early this week. Since his parting with the Washington Commanders this March, Collins has been relatively off the radar.
“Reunion in the works? Free agent safety Landon Collins is visiting the New York #Giants on Monday, per sources, returning to the place where he made three Pro Bowls and an All-Pro team. Collins would give N.Y.’s defense a hybrid linebacker/safety option if they reach agreement,” Fowler tweeted.
The meeting means New York is looking to fortify its defensive line. The Alabama Crimson Tide product had consistent combined and solo tackles during his four-season stint with the Giants. During his four-year career there, Landon made 437 combined and 329 solo tackles.
Aside from playing safety, Landon can also play as a hybrid safety-linebacker, a position he played last season in Washington.
The 28-year-old, now a free agent, was drafted in the second round with the 33rd overall pick in 2015 by the Giants. With the Big Blue, Landon made his first-team All-Pro in 2016 and wrapped up his career with the team as a three-time Pro Bowler. He remained in New York until his departure to the then Washington Redskins in 2019 after signing a six-year, $84 million contract with the team.
However, his time in Washington was cut short. A foot injury in late 2021 placed him on the injured reserve list on December 24. In March, the Commanders listed him on the tender list. Landon was released on June 1, marking his entry into the free agency.
