Dallas Cowboys long snapper Jake McQuaide is expected to miss out on the rest of this season for tearing his triceps in Week 4’s game against the Washington Commanders. The Cowboys confirmed the news on their website on Tuesday.
McQuaide was injured late in the fourth quarter of the game. Until then, the lauded LS had attended games throughout his 12-season career without fail.
Entering the injured reserve list means that McQuaide could potentially become an unrestricted free agent, jeopardizing his recently acquired contract with the Cowboys.
“Jake McQuaide suffered a torn triceps on his final rep of the contest and, as such, will be placed on season-ending injured reserve,” the team announced in a blog post.
McQuaide’s NFL career debut goes back to 2011 when he joined the then St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent. Having just graduated from college football, McQuaide outshined ninth-year player Chris Massey for the long snapper position for the Rams.
A two-time Pro Bowler with the Rams, McQuaide had extended his contract with the team before joining the Cowboys in 2020. The 34-year-old was signed to replace veteran long snapper Louis-Philippe Ladouceur. The player also reunited with former Rams special coordinator John “Bones” Fassel at the Cowboys.
In the short term, McQuaide’s absence may also prove costly for the Cowboys. The Cowboys are now 3-1 early in the season. At the time of writing, the team has yet to announce his replacement ahead of Sunday’s game, where they will take on the reigning Super Bowl champion, the Los Angeles Rams.
In other news, Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott will also miss out on Sunday’s game due to a thumb injury.
The Dallas Morning News reported that Prescott was unfit for the upcoming game. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has appointed Cooper Kupp starting QB in his absence.
