Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliot scolded for leaking Thanksgiving game uniform

The Dallas Cowboys have scolded running back Ezekiel Elliott for leaking the team’s uniform for the upcoming Thanksgiving game.

Earlier, the running back posted a picture of the team’s vintage helmet on his Instagram story with no caption. The helmet is a part of Dallas’ special attire for Thanksgiving, where they will face their NFC East rival, the New York Giants, at its home base. The Thanksgiving event will be the second matchup between the Cowboys and the Giants, with the Dallas team defeating the Giants at MetLife Stadium in Week 3.

The Cowboys have been treating Thanksgiving games as a special event since 1966 under the leadership of Tex Schramm, who wanted to maximize audience engagement. Since then, the Cowboys almost always host the game, except in 1975 and 1977. Per tradition, the game is broadcast late in the afternoon.

Dallas’ reaction to the post surprised fans because the team had already announced the plan to wear the helmet in July. Team chief brand officer Charlotte Jones was the one who made the announcement, saying that the Cowboys were “beyond excited” to bring back the iconic helmet and uniform.

“The white helmet, along with the throwback uniforms honoring our teams from the 1960s, have long been a fan favorite, and we’re thrilled to bring back the tradition of wearing those helmets and uniforms on Thanksgiving Day once again,” Jones said back then.

It will be the first time since 2012 that Dallas brings back the vintage uniform. Reports hold the team will wear the helmets in several training sessions to ensure they are “properly broken in.”

Elliot is currently recovering from a knee injury but is expected to rejoin the Cowboys for the Thanksgiving game. The injury caused him to miss a game against the Chicago Bears last week, where Dallas won 49-29.

Throughout the 2022 season, Elliot has posted four touchdowns, 443 rushing yards and 109 rushing attempts. Tony Pollard took over Elliot’s position last week to record three touchdowns and 131 rushing yards.
