On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Buffalo Bills 33-30 in overtime.
The Vikings were initially behind the Buffalos by 17 points in the second half of the game. However, Minnesota managed to catch up by taking advantage of three turnovers by Bills quarterback Josh Allen, both in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Before the game, it was unclear whether Allen would participate due to an elbow injury. Sources reported that he arrived at the venue just 45 minutes before kickoff. He practiced with backup quarterback Case Keenum during the warmup.
Allen made several mistakes throughout the game that cost Buffalo a win, including a mishandled snap and an end zone fumble. During the post-game conference, he admitted he made a “bad decision.”
“We were horrendous in the red zone, and that’s on my shoulders,” Allen said.
Vikings placekicker Greg Joseph hit a field goal of 33 yards in overtime. Then, with 1:12 left in overtime, cornerback Patrick Peterson intercepted Allen’s pass over to Gabe Davis a few yards inside the end zone.
Following the interception, Peterson ran out of the zone and slid to the turf. Quarterback Kirk Cousins managed to throw for 357 yards throughout the game.
WR Justin Jefferson recorded 10 catches for 193 yards, then helped the Vikings by grabbing the pigskin off Bills cornerback Cam Lewis at 32 yards. The wide receiver became the first player to exceed 100 receiving yards 20 times in the first three NFL seasons. Minnesota acquired Jefferson through the 2020 first-round pick following a trade with the Bills.
With an 8-2 record, the Vikings maintained their lead in the NFC North. Meanwhile, the Bills’ second consecutive loss dropped them to third place in the AFC East, trailing the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets.
Minnesota will face the Dallas Cowboys on November 20, and on the same day, the Bills will play the Cleveland Browns.
