The NBA has banned the Milwaukee Bucks’ Cream City Jersey, one of the league’s most popular uniforms.
The light-colored jersey is prohibited because the color blends with the parquet in NBA arenas, causing glitching issues with promotional banner projectors during broadcasts.
Since the 2019-2020 season, the Bucks have not worn their cream uniforms, which were inspired by the color of the bricks used during the city’s founding in the nineteenth century.
Recently, fans expressed their wish for the popular uniforms to be revived on social media. In response to the request, Bucks chief marketing officer Dustin Godsey told UniWatch reporter Paul Lukas that the organization had not decided to stop wearing them.
Godsey explained that the color of the uniforms interferes with digital ads on the court. He said team sponsors had discovered that players wearing the jerseys ruined their advertisements.
Godsey also mentioned that the issues with digital advertisements started during COVID-19 in Orlando. He said that the Bucks would attempt to work around the ban because the cream color is a crucial component in their branding.
The Bucks recently unveiled their new NIKE City Edition collection uniforms, which they will wear in the 2022-23 season, to accompany the Gathering Place court.
Milwaukee’s new Gathering Place uniforms were inspired by the “Patchwork Mural” by Ammar Nsoroma. The patchwork pattern on the uniforms incorporates two shades of blue from the preceding Gathering Place edition and numerous shades of green in homage to the iconic Bucks “Irish Rainbow” design from the 1970s and 1980s, as well as cream and black.
The pattern is trimmed and repeated to reveal a subtle M pattern, representing Milwaukee.
The Patchwork Mural is located on North Avenue in Bronzeville, an iconic location in the city. It was recently reconnected to downtown Milwaukee via the Deer District neighborhood.
