On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills defeated the New York Jets 20-12 in Highmark Stadium to solidify their lead in the AFC East standings with ten wins and three losses.
With the victory over the injured QB Mike White and his team, the Bills have won four games straight since losing 20-17 to the Jets on November 7 and 33-30 to the Minnesota Vikings a week later. Meanwhile, this is the Jets’ second straight loss in recent games, having just been defeated 27-22 by the Vikings.
White’s injury hampered New York’s performance during the game. He passed an assessment after being hit in the ribs by Bills linebacker Matt Milano. Before returning to the game, the medical team reportedly checked him out in the changing room.
According to New York coach Robert Saleh, White was taken to the hospital shortly after the game as a preventative measure. When asked about White, Saleh explained that White is a “tough” player, evidenced by his ability to finish the game despite not being in good condition.
Regardless of the outcome, Saleh remained optimistic about the team’s chances of making the playoffs and asserted that their team was “good enough.”
The Bills had a 17-7 lead after White’s backup, Joe Flacco, was sacked by Buffalo’s Greg Rousseau in the third quarter.
Jest running back Michael Carter attempted to convert a momentum play, but the 23-year-old fumbled with less than three minutes remaining. New York’s last comeback momentum was when the Jets’ Greg Zuerlein recorded a field goal with less than two minutes remaining.
Despite having no turnovers, White managed to gain 268 yards during the game. In the meantime, Zonovan Knight (21) completed a 13-yard run, and Garret Wilson (22) managed to finish with six catches for 78 yards.
The Jets are scheduled to host the Detroit Lions this Sunday, whereas the Bills are set to face the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
