Palestinian-American MMA fighter Belal Muhammad has challenged the current champion of UFC Welterweight, Leon Edwards, to a fight at UFC 286. Muhammad said he would fight Edwards next March no matter the circumstances, whether in the Octagon or on the streets of London.
Last year, Edwards and Muhammad fought at UFC Vegas 21, where Edwards poked Muhammad’s eye, which rendered the fight a no contest.
Fast forward to the end of 2022, Edwards, the No. 3 best UFC fighter, recently got his welterweight belt after knocking out Kamaru Usman at UFC 278. Meanwhile, Muhammad is on a four-winning streak, which includes wins against Sean Brady, Stephen Thompson, and Vincent Luque.
With his positive form since UFC 280, Muhammad is looking to claim the welterweight title from Edwards. However, Edwards dismissed the fight, saying he did not want another bout with Muhammad.
During an interview session, Muhammad discussed his chance to face Edwards at UFC 286 in London next March. He insisted he wanted to face Edwards rather than Kamaru Usman.
When asked about a card with Khamzat Chimaev as a replacement, he said he was okay with that but stressed that he really just wanted to fight Edwards.
“The only thing that makes sense now is me against Leon for the title,” Muhammad said. “Otherwise, you can put me and Chimaev on the same card in London, and I’ll fight him at 179.8 or whatever he came at (at the UFC 279 weigh-ins). We can do that for a number one contender fight.
“I’m be there (in London for UFC 286). Wherever the title is, that’s where I want to be… I want to be on that card. If anything happens, I can step in, or if I and Leon see each other in the street, we can show out there, too.”
Besides Muhammad, Jorge Masvidal has also challenged the “Rocky” to fight in London.
