The New York Giants (8-6-1) will face the Indianapolis Colts (4-10-1) at MetLife Stadium on January 1 in their final home game of the regular season.
The team is poised for its first postseason appearance since 2016 under first-year coach Brian Daboll.
The Big Blue players will have to overcome a few hurdles for that to happen. A win over the Colts on New Year’s Day is the easiest scenario to envision.
It is still possible to advance if this does not happen, but it would be a much more complicated situation than clinching victory at home.
On Monday Night Football, the Colts lost to the Los Angeles Chargers, but their defense seemed to keep the team within striking distance for a significant amount of time.
They have forced a fair share of turnovers with a total of 17 while holding opposing offenses to the 11th-lowest yards this season. They struggle to stop the run game but rank top-10 in yards, touchdowns, and opposing attempts allowed.
For the Indianapolis Colts, so far this year, the quarterback position could have been much better. However, the Giants remain adamant that they will not underestimate the Colts. In recent years, they have learned not to let their fate be determined by another team that does not share their potential.
The team continues to work to improve both offensively and defensively and understands the playoff pressure that awaits them Sunday in East Rutherford.
As the Giants look to seal their playoff hopes, Indianapolis is practically from such pressure heading into Sunday’s game. Hence, the Colts have more freedom to play with reckless enthusiasm.
The Giants will be in the playoffs for the first time in six years with a win. The NFC race is tightening toward the finish line. If they suffer a shock loss, they may find themselves in trouble.
