LIV Would Beat PGA Without Breaking A Sweat, Phil Mickelson Says

LIV Golf golfer Phil Mickelson has said that LIV players would defeat their PGA Tour counterparts without breaking a sweat.

Recently, a Twitter user posted about the possibility of LIV and the PGA holding an event under the same format as the Ryder Cup, with LIV’s Phil Mickelson and PGA superstar Tiger Woods captaining each side. The account, which goes by the username @flushingitgolf, said it “would be the most watched golf event in history.”

Mickelson replied to the tweet, saying that a match against the PGA would not be a challenge at all.

“It sounds great, but we would dominate them so soundly and it would be over so quickly that tv would have to fill an hour of dead time. That’s why it’s not happening at this time,” Mickelson said.

Mickelson gets various reactions

Mickelson’s reply received mixed reactions. An account with the username @NazoCarl called Mickelson an “ass,” saying he hoped the 52-year-old gets “booed off the playing grounds.”

Seeing that the account showed a bald man as its profile picture, Mickelson replied with lighthearted banter.

“I see your sense of humor lived in your hair,” Mickelson tweeted.

Another user said that Mickelson was a “trash-talking Woods,” describing Mickelson as someone who “used to be cool.”

Another Twitter user later pointed out that the PGA dominates the list of the top 100 golfers. Mickelson then responded again, describing it as an example of favoritism.

“That’s probably because the head of golf’s governing bodies run the owner and have colluded to exclude LIV players from getting points. I’m not a fake media believer but if I was, this would be the perfect example,” Mickelson said.

PGA-LIV rivalry

The PGA-LIV rivalry started as soon as the Saudi-backed tour introduced itself to the public.

Compared to PGA’s traditional 72-hole events, the LIV golf series comprises eight 54-hole tournaments. LIV features seven-event regular competitions with 48 players divided into 12 teams. Each event has separate prizes for every player involved.

Responding to LIV’s concept, PGA announced that its players who participate in LIV Golf events would be sanctioned. They are subject to fines and suspension if they compete in LIV events without the PGA’s permission.

In June last year, the PGA announced that participating in LIV events would result in a ban from PGA tournaments.
