Arnold “Almighty” Allen’s impressive 12-winning streak ended when he faced off against former featherweight champion Max “Blessed” Holloway on Saturday at UFC on ESPN 44.
Holloway won the bout unanimously with a score of 49-46, 49-46, 48-47, bringing his career record to 24-7, with Allen’s dropping to 19-2.
In the second round, Allen landed a powerful combination of a left and right hook that visibly shook Holloway. Although he couldn’t capitalize on this moment, the British fighter continued to pursue Holloway around the Octagon.
However, he could not land the same heavy blow again, and Holloway began to fight back, delivering a series of painful body kicks. Holloway regained his momentum and took control of the fight.
As Allen’s offense began to slow down in the fourth round, Holloway took advantage by landing precise combinations and counters. Allen’s corner urged him to aim for a finish in the final round, and he aggressively pushed the pace.
While he managed to land a few good shots, Holloway regained control and dictated the tempo of the fight. At one point, Allen managed to get Holloway into a clinch but returned to striking, landing a head kick and more punches.
Another clinch stalled the action, and the fighters broke apart and emptied their energy reserves. Then, just before the round ended, Holloway landed a punch that dropped Allen.
The three judges at ringside unanimously scored the bout in favor of the former featherweight champion. This victory marks Holloway’s return to the win column following his previous loss to Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski at UFC 276.
At 31 years old, Holloway was among the elite group of 15 fighters with a 10-fight winning streak in the Octagon. He achieved two impressive milestones during his fight with Allen in Kansas City, becoming the first UFC fighter to reach 3,000 significant strikes and the third fighter to spend seven hours in the Octagon.
