Nate Diaz confirms return to MMA at pre-fight conference against Jake Paul

Nate “Diablo” Diaz has reaffirmed his commitment to rejoin MMA, a sport to which he had dedicated 15 years of his career. Diaz announced plans to return to the sport during a recent pre-fight news conference for his upcoming August 5 boxing bout against the YouTube sensation Jake Paul at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

The former UFC superstar said that returning to the UFC was a possibility he was considering.

“I would like to [return]. At the end of the day, I’d like to go back and fight for a world title,” Diaz said.

But if that plan doesn’t happen, Diaz is open to creating his own “world title” and attracting the best fighters to compete against him. The 38-year-old also expressed interest in fighting boxing belt holders if the UFC return doesn’t materialize.

Diaz wants to fight best fighters at UFC

The current free agent said the UFC is home to the best fighters, and his ultimate objective is to face off against top competitors. He believes that the UFC is the perfect platform to fulfill that goal.

Regarding his sentiments towards UFC and its president Dana White, Diaz said he respects the organization. He described his relationship with White as “cool” and indicated they maintained an amicable rapport.

During a news conference in Kansas City, White also spoke positively about the possibility of a future reunion with Diaz when questioned by MMA Junkie.

“We love Nate,” White said. “I don’t know [about the future]. We’ll see.”

After his contract expired in September, Diaz chose to part ways with the UFC. His departure from the organization came on a high note as he secured a submission victory over Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson in an impromptu main event at UFC 279.
