Citizens Bank Park during a 2023 regular season matchup against the Rockies & Phillies – CC BY-SA
The Philadelphia Phillies have recently announced the rescheduling of their home game against the Atlanta Braves. The game, initially planned for Thursday, September 14, has been moved to Monday, September 11.
This rescheduling was prompted by the recent release of the NFL’s regular-season schedule, which revealed that the Philadelphia Eagles would have their home opener on September 14 against the Minnesota Vikings.
It is not only set to be a “Thursday Night Football” matchup but also holds significance for the Eagles as it marks their first home appearance since their participation in Super Bowl LVII in February.
The need for rescheduling arose due to the Eagles’ Lincoln Financial Field and the Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park sharing the same parking lot as they are hosted by the same sports complex. This calls for adjustments to accommodate both teams’ schedules and logistics.
Fortunately, it was easily accomplished since the Phillies and Braves have a break on September 11.
Phillies executive vice president David Buck expressed gratitude for the cooperation between the Braves, MLB and the reigning NFC champions Eagles.
He said they were fortunate to reschedule the game to Monday night on September 11. Buck added that this decision was “easy” as it ensured that game times wouldn’t conflict, benefiting Philadelphia sports fans.
“We greatly appreciate the willingness of the Phillies, the Braves and Major League Baseball to adjust their schedule.”
Don Smolenski, team president of the Philadelphia Eagles
In a statement, Eagles president Don Smolenski voiced his appreciation for the Phillies, the Braves and MLB. Smolenski recognized the bustling week of sports in Philadelphia and praised the strong bond between the Eagles and the Phillies.
He highlighted the shared commitment of both organizations to offer fans the ultimate game day experience. Smolenski also noted that the rescheduling would effectively resolve any concerns regarding congestion at the Sports Complex that could arise due to simultaneous events.
The Phillies and J.T. Realmuto will face off against the San Francisco Giant and LaMonte Wade Jr, at Oracle Park, San Francisco, CA, on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. E.T.
In the second game of a three-game series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX, the Braves, led by Ronald Acuna Jr., will play against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m E.T.
