The dates and times for all three Kansas City Chiefs preseason games in 2023 have been officially confirmed. The Chiefs are scheduled to start their preseason with an away game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, August 13, at Caesars Superdome, New Orleans. The game will begin at noon.

For their second preseason matchup, the Chiefs will travel to State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona, to face the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, August 19. The game is set to commence at 6:00 p.m. C.T.

Looking ahead to the third game, they will return home to play against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, August 26, at GEHA Field at Arrowhead, Kansas City. The final game of the preseason is scheduled for noon too.

While KSHB-TV in Kansas City will broadcast each game locally, there is a possibility that NFL Network might opt to air some of the games later for a national audience.

What lies after three preseason games

After the conclusion of the preseason games, Kansas City will have 12 days to prepare for the opener of their championship defense, which is set to be Banner Night.

The highly anticipated game will occur on Thursday, September 7, at GEHA Field in Arrowhead Stadium, where they will go head-to-head against the Detroit Lions.

According to NFL vice president of broadcast planning Mike North, the decision to select the Lions for opening night was based on specific factors.

North explained the Lions showcased a remarkable performance in their previous appearance, securing victories in eight out of ten games.

“The last time we saw the Lions they were winning eight of 10 and going into Lambeau and ruining the (Green Bay) Packers season. They’ve earned this. They have earned this spotlight, they have earned this platform,” he said.

The vice president also mentioned that all divisional games would have been viable choices regarding potential matchups. In his opinion, games against the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills were considered excellent options too. “Any of the Kansas City games would’ve been great,” North said.
