NHL drops full schedule of 2023-24 regular season

The 2022–2023 season just ended a few days ago, but the NHL has announced the full 2023–2024 regular season schedule.

The season will open on Tuesday, October 10, with a tripleheader on ESPN. It also features two landmark moments – the Vegas Golden Knights raising its Stanley Cup championship banner and its first game against the Seattle Kraken at 10:30 p.m. ET at T-Mobile Arena.

Besides the headlining match, the Nashville Predators will be visiting the Tampa Bay Lightning for an opening game at 5:30 p.m. ET. The second game will be between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins at 8 p.m. ET.

Following the opening night, TNT will debut its season with a doubleheader on October 11. The Chicago Blackhawks will play against the Boston Bruins at 7:30 p.m. ET, while the LA Kings will host the Colorado Avalanche at 10 p.m. ET.

On the same day, all seven Canadian teams will be in action. The Montreal Canadiens is playing the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m. ET, with the Ottawa Senators playing the Carolina Hurricanes at the same time.

At 10 p.m. ET, the Winnipeg Jets will face off against the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers is meeting the Vancouver Canucks. Sportsnet will broadcast all four games.

While fans await the start of the regular season, the offseason is still in full swing, with the 2023 Entry Draft just around the corner.

Notable dates breakdown

There are a few notable dates throughout the season. The first is the 2023 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic between the Oilers and Flames. They will play on Sunday, October 29, at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta.

Then, the 2023 NHL Global Series will take place on November 16–19 at Avicii Arena, Stockholm. The Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, Senators and Leafs will play the four regular-season games.

There will be a rematch of the 2023 Stanley Cup® Final on December 23 and January 4 as the two finalists, the Florida Panthers and Golden Knights, meet again.

Other notable dates include the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic on New Year, Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday, January 20 and the 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series.

The regular season will feature 1,312 games. Each team will play 82 games. There will be a short break on February 17-18. The season will conclude on April 18.
