Conor McGregor misses own deadline for UFC comeback announcement

Conor McGregor has failed to meet his self-imposed deadline to announce his official UFC comeback. Although he had indicated that he would announce the fight date during the last episode of The Ultimate Fighter, he ultimately did not follow through.

Previously, he has consistently asserted his intention to return to the Octagon this December to face Michael Chandler. However, doubts linger as the bout has yet to be officially announced. Chandler’s role as McGregor’s opponent was revealed in February.

The delay is mainly due to concerns about McGregor’s drug testing status with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. He needs six months in their pool and must provide two negative tests before becoming eligible to fight. However, it is unconfirmed whether he has re-entered the anti-doping pool, particularly after his “retirement” following a leg injury from a match against Dustin Poirier over two years ago.

Despite hints of an imminent reveal, fans are growing frustrated with the delayed fight date announcement.

“I’ll start recording my work again to share with you all while we get this next fight on and set. It’s coming, I promise. To all my true fans, those who support a real fighter, it’s coming, I promise!” McGregor said on Twitter.

UFC President Dana White recently mentioned that he had discussed the fight with McGregor, confirming his matchup against Chandler.

“I talked to Conor, either yesterday or the day before,” White said. “And yeah, he’s ready to fight. I said, ‘Listen, get in shape and let’s figure this out.’”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the fight, Chandler expressed confidence that the fight would occur.

“Everyone wants to see the greatest comeback in combat sports history, so I think it’s going to be me and Conor. That’s it,” Chandler said.

Chandler is expected to be present at UFC 292 in Boston, where Aljamain Sterling will defend his title against Sean O’Malley.
