The Korean Zombie Octagon Interview | UFC Singapore – RETIREMENT FIGHT

Max Holloway knocked out Chan Sung Jung at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 225 in Singapore. Jung, who was having the last fight of his career, was felled only 23 seconds into the third round.

The battle highlighted Holloway and Jung’s skills as orthodox fighters. Holloway attacked Jung with a left hook in the first round and dropped Jung down with a powerful right hand in the second. After that, Holloway nearly won with a d’Arce choke, but Jung managed to hold his ground.

As the third round began, Jung went for an all-out attack, coming forward with aggressive punches. However, Holloway skillfully dodged the strikes and countered with a strong right hand that sent Jung down.

In light of the recent fires in his native Hawaii, Holloway dedicated his victory to the victims. He also paid tribute to Jung during the post-fight conference.

“This man’s a f—ing legend,” Holloway said. “He’s Korean Zombie for a reason. The man is a myth, a legend. I’m just lucky my right hand landed before his.”

Jung announced his retirement from MMA after the loss. The 36-year-old had a career of 17 wins and eight losses, including eight wins through submissions.

“I’m going to step away from fighting,” Jung said. “I’ve always tried to become a champion, since I first started in the sport. I’m not here to be ranked No. 3, 4 or 5. I tried my absolute best to train for Holloway, and I ended up failing. I don’t think I have the opportunity [to be champion anymore], so I’m going to stop fighting.”

As Sung Jung exited the Octagon, the veteran’s walkout song, “Zombie” by The Cranberries, played once more. The remaining fans in the venue joined in to shout the lyrics.

Jung first gained attention in 2010 with a memorable bout against Leonard Garcia in his WEC debut. Known for his tough chin and aggressive style, he competed for the UFC championship twice, against Jose Aldo in 2013 and Volkanovski in 2022. Between 2013 and 2017, he had to complete mandatory military service in South Korea, causing a four-year gap in his career.
