NBA superstars Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Stephen Curry have confirmed interest in playing for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Durant made his Olympic aspirations clear during the Phoenix Suns’ NBA media day, saying he would participate in the upcoming event. Likewise, James conveyed his strong interest in playing in Paris, while Curry is also determined to compete for his first Olympic gold medal.
James considered this opportunity due to his previous involvement with the team and the exceptional talent of the players. He also emphasized that his primary focus remains on the ongoing season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Notably, James had previously secured gold medals with Team USA as a part of the 2008 “Redeem Team” and the 2012 London Olympics squad.
On a similar note, Golden State Warriors star player Curry expressed his strong desire to claim his first Olympic gold medal. He also voiced his confidence in Team USA’s potential to regain dominance on the global stage.
The enthusiasm extends to several other players as well. Bam Adebayo, DeMar DeRozan, Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Jaylen Brown, Donovan Mitchell, Khris Middleton, Julius Randle, Zach LaVine, Aaron Gordon, Fred VanVleet and Brook Lopez have all affirmed their commitment to the team, expressing their readiness to participate if invited.
Furthermore, Kyrie Irving revealed the same interest during the Dallas Mavericks’ media day last week. Curry’s teammate, Draymond Green, has previously shown his desire for another opportunity to compete at the Olympics.
In terms of his efforts to recruit players for the Olympics, James told ESPN that there had been discussions.
James acknowledged the strain a lengthy NBA season and playoffs can put on athletes’ bodies, even before gearing up for the Olympics. However, he downplayed the impact of wear and tear.
“Physical toll? I’ll see how I feel at the end of the season,” James said.” From the players that we have here off the top of my head that could fill that roster up, I don’t think it would be too much of a physical toll.”
