With things hotting up in the USL Championship this year, the upcoming battle between Indy Eleven and Miami FC has fans wondering if the boys in blue can hold their own against the might of Miami after the sides ended up with a 1-1 draw the last time they bumped heads.
The Elevens started the season with back to back losses and two underwhelming draws in their first four matches. First, they lost 1-0 away at Loudoun United on March 12, followed by another away loss 2-0 to the Tampa Bay Rowdies on March 19. Then, they managed two draws against Louisville City and LA Galaxy II at the end of the month. But things seemingly took a turn for the better at the beginning of April, with Indy Eleven racking up four consecutive wins in the first half of the month.
Since then, it’s been a bit of a roller coaster ride for the Elevens, with wins, losses and draws all playing equal parts in the build up to the match on July 3. And in a fatal blow to morale, the boys in blue suffered a shocking 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on June 18.
Miami FC, on the other hand, are on equal points with Indy Eleven but the boys in blue have two games in hand, which should give them the edge in the Championship standings. However, the two teams have both suffered 5 losses each, which levels the playing field a little in terms of confidence. But Indy Eleven has a better history of winning at home.
So it seems the winning team is anyone’s guess at this point. But with the Eleven’s at home, we could see the Floridian visitors fall at the feet of their Midwestern hosts. Either way, make sure you tune in to the match on July 3 to find out.
