The 150th Open Championship tees off on July 14 at St Andrews and LIV defectors will be there after a recent ruling from the R&A. It follows in the wake of a similar decision at The US Open in June.

The decision means that high-profile names such as Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau will be there to play the final major of 2022 and it’s sure to divide not just the players but the crowds too.
Much has been said about the controversial LIV Invitational and not a minute goes by without someone having their say on Twitter. Opinions fly in thick and fast from the pros and spectators alike so it remains to be seen what kind of reception they’ll receive when they land on Scottish soil.
There was support from many when the likes of Phil Mickelson stepped out at The Country Club, in Brookline, Mass. But the ongoing saga may well have affected their concentration with few making it through the 4 rounds.
Dustin Johnson managed T-24 at +4, which turned out to be the best of any of the players who have made the move across to LIV so far. Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen and Phil Mickelson were all cut.
The Old Course will see one of the most fiercely contested majors yet and the added pressure of LIV will only help to create an electric atmosphere. Rory McIlroy has been vocal in recent days about those making their way out of the PGA and his recent impressive form at the Travelers Championship could see him make a push for the head of the field.
Tiger is set to appear as is Darren Clarke, David Duval and Paul Lowrie alongside a host of other big names from both the PGA/European circuits and LIV Invitational. It looks set to be a testy competition with all the hallmarks of a classic in the making.
